Sopa project and VPN

VPN service (the letters stand for Virtual Private Network) is a means of connecting two computers on a network. It differs from the older means of connection— dial- up and broadband— in that it enables users to connect to bypass Internet restrictions and visit websites that could not otherwise be viewed online.

Part of VPN service is a system called Hidemyass, which provides a way of remaining completely anonymous while surfing the web. The way it works is, the surfer’s browsing history is encrypted so that hackers, identity thieves, and others will not be able to access any of the information stored there. Each year, innocent people lose millions of dollars to identity thieves who use their credit cards for their online shopping sprees.

Hidemyass also blocks out the advertisements that often pop up online. It does not require any special software to install; all that is required is a web browser.

A project called SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) has been introduced into the House to provide penalties for copyright infringement online, including streaming material under copyright. Many citizens are opposed to this bill on the grounds that it threatens internal networks, users uploading material, and ohers.
